Koeksisters made with Truvia For Baking Caster Sweetener

SYRUP
125ml water
Pinch of cream of tartar
Pinch salt
The grated rind and juice of ½ lemon

½ tsp Ground cinnamon
500ml Cake flour
4 tsp Baking powder
¼ tsp Salt
2 Tbsp Butter
125ml Buttermilk
Oil for frying
Directions
KOEKSISTERS
- 1.
Sift the flour, cinnamon, baking powder and salt into a bowl.
- 2.
Rub in the butter using your fingertips.
- 3.
Mix in the buttermilk to form a soft dough.
- 4.
Knead thoroughly, cover with a damp cloth and allow to stand for 15 minutes.
- 5.
Roll to a thickness of 5 mm and cut into 5 mm strips, 70 mm long.
- 6.
Place the ends of 3 strips together, one on top of another, and press together before plaiting. When plaited, press the ends together again.
- 7.
Submerge in hot oil and fry until golden brown. Drain on a paper towel for a moment and then coat in syrup.
- 8.
Remove from syrup and allow excess to drip off.
SYRUP
- 9.
Put all the ingredients into a sauce pan.
- 10.
Stir continuously over heat until the Truvia For Baking Brown Sweetener has dissolved.
- 11.
Cover and boil for one minute.
*Do not put the syrup in the fridge as it will get firm.
*Dip the Koeksisters into the hot syrup before serving.
